Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Equipment:

  • Oven
  • Skillet
  • Cutting board

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, paprika, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into small meatballs.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides, then remove from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté the onion and garlic until softened. Add crushed tomatoes, sugar, and beef broth. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Return the meatballs to the skillet, spooning the sauce over them. Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  6. Place the meatballs in an ovenproof dish, top each with a slice of mozzarella, and bake for 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
